LINKAGES AND COLLABORATIONS

1. UNIVERSITY OF PAU-FRANCE.
DATE OF SIGNING MoU-CONTINUING.
AREAS OF COLLABORATION
i) Tourism conference July 2014
• The tourism conference is on course to take place from 16th to 18th of July 2014. The Dean School of Tourism is in scientific committee organising the conference. (See attached programme)
• Hold a meeting on 18th July after the conference at Maasai Mara University.
The Director Tourism University of Pau will remain for a few days to discuss further on Tourism partnership
• Possibly sign Memorandum of agreement.
ii) Internship opportunity
• It was requested that MMU to host one French Master of Tourism student for internship in 2014.The details to be discussed between Dean Tourism MMU and Director Tourism University of Pau France after the conference.
iii) Scholarship
• It was agreed that MMU to request for Scholarships for at least two of Maasai Mara students, in Master of Heritage and Master of Tourism to go to the University of Pau.
• MMU to send scientific and pedagogical documents for the two students to French Embassy as quickly as possible. The documents were forwarded to the Embassy for four candidates two for Tourism and two for Heritage and awaiting response.
iv) Exchange programme
• Organise exchange of students from next academic year especially in Tourism, Heritage and Public Administration and Devolution.

2. CLEMSON UNIVERSITY –U.S.A

AREAS OF COLLABORATION.
• Joint training
 Exchange research, training and workshop conference Developing a tourism information system for Maasai Mara Game Reserve
• Exchange institutional professionals
 To encourage, support and facilitate mutual visits by staff in order to learn from each other as well as to strengthen the collaborative ties.
 Clemson has graduate students from Rwanda, Tanzania in the department of parks, recreation and tourism management. And online master's degree in parks, recreation and tourism management will target East African students.
• Establishment of a road safety institute
CU- IGRSS (CLEMSON UNIVERSITY-INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY AND SECURITY) and K-IGRSS (KENYAN- INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY AND SECURITY) will collaborate together with faculty in their respective curriculum and instruction departments, and with interdisciplinary CU-IGRISS to develop three program areas as:
 Road safety programs
 Road behavior
 Road safety management: including curriculum for interdisciplinary road safety management including education, engineering, enforcement and emergency management services. Road safety curriculum that can be implemented in primary schools in Kenya. Curriculum and research agenda for the road user behavior.
 college alcohol prevention program
Program was designed and implemented to prevent or reduce the negative consequences of substance abuse and addictions with an emphasis on preventing driving under the influence of alcohol.

3. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND CULTURAL COOPERATION CHINA-AFRICA CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION & WUHAN BOTANICAL GARDEN, CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, WUHAN, --CHINA
Nature of cooperation

AREAS OF COLLABORATION
a) To boost and enhance higher education training through research, training,
Innovation, technological development and capacity building in the areas of mutual
Interest.
b) To provide an instrument for establishing various collaborative initiatives for the growth and mutual benefit of the two institutions.
c) To enhance professional skills of staff in all the institutions through training, joint research ventures, staff exchanges, curricula development and review, staff and students interactions and exchange of experiences and information.
d) To provide an avenue for equipping laboratories and other facilities in cooperating
Institutions for promotion of research.
e) To provide avenue for physical facilities development.
f) To encourage joint publication on projects of mutual interest.
g) To encourage any other activities that the Parties agree to be of mutual benefits.

4. THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH (GEOHEALTH)-UNIVERSITY OF ADDIS ABABA –ETHIOPIA.
NATURE OF COLLABORATION.-ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH ISSUES.

Areas of collaboration.
 To conduct a survey to identify current research, educational, policy and regulatory activities (Governmental, academic, NGO)
 To analyze findings of inventory and conduct planning workshops
 To develop innovative & cost-effective solutions to identified training, research and policy needs
 To develop a strategic research plan for the full hub proposal
 To address critical evidence gaps for mitigation of environmental and occupational health problems
 Focus on priority areas of national and regional stakeholders
 To establish a capacity building framework for the full hub proposal for

5. KENYA INDUSTRIAL ESTATES-KENYA.

1. Create incubation centers and incubate student's projects with potential for commercialization.
2. Attachment of MMU staff to enterprise funded through KIE for purposes of gaining experience that would be ploughed back into teaching

5. Organizing training for SMEs jointly for purposes of addressing the existing knowledge gap which hinders graduation of SMEs and eventually to large enterprises
6. Organizing short courses for KIE staff for purposes of staff development

7. UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE.-LONDON-U.K
Collaboration is intended to promote co-operation, discussions and positive academic relations between Hertfordshire and Maasai Mara to their mutual benefit.

 The Parties agree to facilitate discussions in good faith in relation to:
 Collaboration in research projects of mutual interest, in particular in the area of tourism;
 Collaboration in staff development, including educational management and development of English language teaching, and;
 Exchange of students and/or members of academic staff as agreed between the Parties and as appropriate to the circumstances of each Party.

8. REGENTS UNIVERSITY-LONDON-U.K

9. UNIVERSITY OF BORDEAUX 3-FRANCE.
1.0 The goals
• To support the mobility of students (master and PHD) and academics
• To support the use of the French language
• To support the research program in some fields.
2.0 The fields
2.1 The Tourism and Art schools of Maasai Mara University on one part, the IATU (institute of urban and touristic management), the DEFLE (department of French language studies) on the other part: exchange of curricula, teachers in a first time.
3.0 The supports
3.1 A applied research program in tourism and heritage development of the territories, with the opportunity of financial support (AAP-CRA, Appel à Projets du Conseil Regional Aquitaine) with the master tourism of UPPA (Pau University) and the DRAC Aquitaine.
The supports will involve;
i) Establishment of a French Language Institute/ centre
Maasai Mara University is currently teaching French language to students undertaking tourism, arts and hospitality courses. Being in an exclusively Anglophone environment, access to resources and materials is limited i.e. books, equipment, teaching aids. The availability of a modern language laboratory fully equipped with internet connection with white board interactive would improve the capacity to effectively teach French language and culture. Supplementary material that aids in learning process and actualization of the French language and culture like magazines, newspapers, story books, films, documentaries will also help build capacity. It is important to build French language and culture capacity because of the effect and competition of other languages in the world.
With the strong capacity of university of University of Bordeaux 3 in teaching over 20 languages there is an opportunity to work together to introduce teaching of Swahili language spoken in East African Community and DRC Congo.( A technical proposal will be developed on this opportunity.)
ii) Establishment of Cultural Heritage Institute/centre.
The Cultural Heritage institute/centre to support development and preservation of cultural heritage in the region. With the capacity of Bordeaux 3, the University of Pau on heritage management cooperation will be possible. Narok is a rich area in terms of cultural resources including indigenous knowledge being the home of the Maasai people whose culture continues to withstand the test of time.
iii) Maasai Mara University research/field station in the Mara game reserve
Maasai Mara University being a young institution is establishing a research/field station in the Mara game reserve. The aim is to develop tourism and hospitality research facilities for students as well as tourists education centre. The facility will serve as a documentation centre for all research and activities in the Mau Mara Serengeti Ecosystem. (A technical proposal will be developed on this opportunity.)
3.2 Exchange programs (fellowship in master and PHD) with the support of French Embassy and the future project to create a consortium (Eramus european program).
3.3 Capacity building on; library, Science and Computer capacities
The Maasai Mara University Library aims at providing a comprehensive literature on tourism, wild life and forestry conservation and other aspects knowledge including community integration and social transformations to enable the university achieve its vision of promoting knowledge on tourism, nature conservation and economic and social integration through innovative research and policy dialogue, as well as training a new generation of elites on issues relating to conservation of nature in Africa. Other capacities/ resources;
 science Lab equipment,
 ICT infrastructure,
 Nursing school resources,
 Media lab resources, and
 GIS capacity/ equipment for climate change monitoring.

c) Eco -museum at Regional Park of the Lands

After visiting it was observed that it is possible to set up an eco museum at Maasai Mara facility at Mara. The Director to attend and participate in the conference. MMU to develop a proposal, and seek support from French Embassy.
MMU to draw a workplan and begin by collecting artefacts for the proposed eco museum

Establishing a tripartite cooperation between the park, Maasai mara game reserve and MMU
That the Ecomuseum at Regional Park of the Lands is ready to assist where necessary through
consultancy and cooperation

10. AARHUS UNIVERSITY- DENMARK

Areas of Cooperation
The parties agree to collaborate in the following areas of mutual interest:
1. Establish and promote joint research, development projects and academic cooperation with focus on the Maasai Mara (ecosystem, living conditions, economic growth and biodiversity);
2. Establish and develop an Action to save and develop the Maasai Mara;
3. Engage in knowledge exchange and cooperation with stakeholders;
4. Identify opportunities for exchange of students;
5. Explore possibilities for exchange of faculty and research staff;
6. Exchange of academic information and materials;
7. Organise and participate in joint academic activities such as publications, seminars and conferences.

11. SHENZHEN FAIRY LAKE BOTANICAL GARDEN (SZFLBG)

(a) Explore possibilities for exchange of research staff;
(b) Establish and promote joint research projects and academic cooperation;
