Geography is essentially a spatial and temporal science that is focused at answering questions regarding two aspects of human life: The geographic environment and place.
The geographic environment is made up of complex natural and human phenomena that interact in a multiplicity of ways over space. Such relationships amongst natural biophysical processes and features; human populations and their respective socioeconomic context and natural resource management are of particular interest to geographers.
A place becomes distinctive only when one appreciates the wide range of variation in its natural and/or built up environments across the earth’s surface. The temporal considerations give meaning the changes that occur over time on the geographical phenomena.
Geography examines both physical and human problems from an integrative perspective, which ensures that virtually any type of topic or problem can be examined geographically making the discipline relevant to the provision of solutions to geographic problems that the country faces.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the programme the students should be able to:
- Apply geographic knowledge and techniques in a variety of knowledge creation and service provision endeavors and thereby promote the understanding of geospatial and temporal phenomena.
- Evaluate and analyze geographic and environmental phenomena and therefore contribute to the solution to problems that affect humanity.
- Apply cartographic and remote sensing techniques in fields and aspects that focus on their applications in planning and spatial resource management.
- Pursue graduate studies and research in geography and other related fields.
To be admitted into the degree programme, an applicant must be in possession of the minimum qualification for admission into a B.A. degree programme of Maasai Mara University, or its equivalent. In addition, he/she will be required to:
