Course Structure

The modern professional is expected to be a skilled communicator with a clear understanding of the social and professional environment in which they work. This programme endeavors to provide the learner with knowledge and skills to enable them be effective communicators in the contemporary society.

This course is especially designed for students who aspire to be public relation practitioners and consultant.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, graduates of B.A in Language and Communication Studies are expected to:

  1. Demonstrate a clear knowledge of the sub-disciplines of language and communication and their interfaces.
  2. Posses the relevant skills, expertise and holistic knowledge in the study of human language structures and communication.
  • Apply the core principles of Language and Communication to not only  English as an international language, but also to other languages in their future careers in various fields such as academia, translation, communication consultants, research and in organizations concerned with language-based or communication-based initiatives.
  1. Assess the functions, roles and challenges facing the English language as medium of international communication in the media, international organizations, scientific writing and academia, using language or communication-based perspectives.
  2. Acquire theoretical knowledge in Language and Communication to be able to pursue Postgraduate studies in either Language or Communication.

Regulations on Credit Transfer in the Programme

A student would be eligible to transfer credits if he/she:-

  • Does NOT transfer more than 49% credits if he/she intends to graduate from/ in Maasai Mara University
  • Has successfully passed the courses being transferred
  • Records and conduct have been confidentially communicated between the two Universities
  • Undertakes the new Universities’ common courses unless those previously taken are considered to be equivalent to what the new University offers
  • Undertakes at least TWO field attachments and the research project at Maasai Mara University for he/she graduate.

Admission Requirements

Minimum University entrance requirements

To be admitted in the degree programme the applicant must fulfill the common academic requirements as prescribed by Maasai Mara University, Specifically:

(i) Applicant must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admission to the University.

(ii) Applicants must have obtained a mean grade of C+ at KCSE level. In addition, the applicant must have obtained a minimum a grade of C+ in English at the KCSE level. Or

(iii) Two Principal passes and a subsidiary pass at KACE – A level

 Other admission requirements

  • two year diplomain a relevant field from a recognized institution at the grade of credit and above.
