Dean - School of Education

The School of Education is one of the largest Schools in Maasai Mara University College. Its main objective is to produce graduands who provide essential services to the nation and the world anchored in the Education Pillar of Vision 2030. It is our envisioned plan to achieve all the stipulated goals. The School seeks to produce innovative, creative and skilled graduands in education and other market-oriented programmes which range from Diploma to Ph.D. The School of Education offers Regular, School-Based and Weekend Programmes at Main Campus. The School has two Departments that offer Post-graduate, Graduate, Under-graduate and Diploma programmes. The Ph.D. programmes offered include Curriculum Studies, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction subject areas.

Beside quality teaching, members of faculty significantly address the societal problem through research in the following areas: gender and education, curriculum implementation, teacher cognition, education administration, etc.

Vision: To be an excellent programme of nursing of choice in the provision of quality nursing education for sustainable development.

Mission: To provide quality-nursing education for the delivery of quality nursing care through the application of evidence-based practices, innovative strategies, and appropriate technology.

The rationale of the Programme: The programme has been developed in response to changing needs, locally, region and global, based on the situation analysis. The programme is designed to equip graduates with knowledge, skills, and attitude in the discharge of professional duties in nursing practice, education, leadership, and research.  It will further enable the graduates to develop and integrate critical thinking and evidence-based practices into the practice of nursing.

Goals of the Programme: To produce an effective, self-directed nurse serving as a role model for excellence in nursing practice, education, management, innovation, and research, with an understanding and commitment to community service.

Admission requirements: 

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or it is Equivalent with minimum Aggregate of C+ (plus)

In addition, applicants should have the following clusters;

Cluster A: C+ (plus) in each of the required subjects  

Mathematics/Physics, English/Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology

Cluster B: C+(plus) in each of the required subjects

English/Kiswahili, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Biological Sciences        

OR

  I Principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and a subsidiary pass either in physics or Mathematics

 II. Kenya Registered Nurse Diploma or equivalent and a mean grade of C or Division II in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.  Should have worked for a minimum of 2 years following registration.

Accordingly, the School of Tourism, Hospitality & Leisure Studies (STHLS) strives to ensure that we provide the opportunities, tools and the knowledge and skills for tourism, hospitality and leisure professionals. Through the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning, research and outreach programs that are globally competitive and committed to economic and social advancements, our students become empowered, market-ready leaders, poised to shape the future of the industry. The tourism, hospitality and leisure industry in Kenya and elsewhere in the world awaits dynamic thinkers, leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, executive chefs, hoteliers, tour and travel operators, tour and travel guides, strategists, policymakers, researchers, and industry disruptors. The STHLS wishes to play its role in the development of talent in our country and beyond as we take the lead in the sector. The STHLS currently offers Diploma in Tourism and Wildlife Management, Bachelor of Hotels and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Tourism Management, and Bachelor of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Management. Additionally, the School is in the process of developing two Master’s programs: Tourism Management and Hospitality Management. The school also focuses on growing its research output as well as meeting the local community and other relevant stakeholders at their point of need to provide technical expertise and other related support systems through collaborations and partnerships for mutual benefits of all parties. The STHLS aspires to become a symbol of excellence in tourism, hospitality and leisure studies in Kenya and globally.

School of Business and Economics

The School of Business and Economics was initially established as the School of Human Resource Development, Business, and Economics in May 2007, but adopted the current name in September 2011 following a reorganization of Schools intended to improve efficiency and The School offers 1 Ph.D., 2 Masters, 5 Undergraduate, 3 Diploma and 2 Certificate Programmes in two Departments – Business Management and Economics – in the areas of Business Management, Human Resource Management, Economics, Agricultural Economics, and Hotel and Hospitality Management. The School also offers short tailor-made training courses and consultancy services on request. The Department of Business Management offers Ph.D. in Business Management; Master Philosophy in Human Resource Development; Master of Business Management (MBM); Bachelor of Business Management (BBM); Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management; and Bachelor of Hotel and Hospitality Management; Diploma in Business Management; Diploma in Human Resource Management; Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management; Certificate in Business Management; Certificate in Human Resource Management and Certificate in Hotel and Restaurant Management Programmes. The Department of Economics offers a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics & Resource Management Programmes. The School is in the process of developing innovative market-driven Certificate, Diploma Undergraduate programmes in Business Management & Information Technology and Entrepreneurship & Project Management. All the programmes are geared to strengthen the business leadership capacity of the students. They are offered at the Main Campus, Satellite Campuses and various collaborating institutions, except the Ph.D. Programme which is currently offered only at the Main Campus. School of Natural Resource and Animal Sciences

The School has two academic departments: Dept. of Environmental Studies, Geography & Agriculture, and the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management 

The School is currently running three (3) Ph.D. Programmes (Environmental Studies, Environmental Planning and Management, and   Land Resource Management),  Four (4)  Masters Programmes (Environmental Studies,  Environmental Planning  and Management,  Land Resource Management,   Geography) and Nine (9) Bachelors Programmes (Urban and Regional Planning;  Environmental Management;  Animal Health and Production; Earth Sciences; Geography;  Environmental  Studies (Biology and Health);    Wildlife Management;  Forestry Ecosystem Management ) The school also offer Two (2) Diploma Programmes: Tourism and Wildlife Management;  and Animal Health and Production). One (1) Certificate Programme: Tourism and Wildlife Management.

The study programmes focus on preparing students for careers with environmental management agencies, Urban planning authorities, forestry and agriculture, livestock sectors. The school also, as one of our primary commitments and focus through Mara Resource and Outreach Centre, run community Outreach programmes and activities.

The School has played a key role in ensuring that Maasai Mara University is a recognized Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) in Environmental Education.

There are a number of organizations that the School, through the University, is collaborating with, including Clemson University, Northern Arizona University of Forestry, the University of Maryland in Wildlife and Environmental Education, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Aarhus University, among other. These collaborations provide opportunities for staff exchanges and for our students to travel abroad for Graduate Studies.

The school was started in 2009 with five members and currently, the school has five departments namely: Dept. of Computer & Information Sciences(CIS), Dept. of Mathematics & Physical Sciences (PSM), Dept. of Biological Sciences(BS), Dept. of Information & Communication Technology(ICT)

The school of science has more than thirty-two (32) teaching staff and a student population of over six hundred students (600). The school members of staff are involved in teaching and research in various areas. The school has recently acquired three states of the art pieces of equipment for teaching and research and these include AAS, FTIR-affinity-1s, and GC-FID. The school has several collaborations with industry and other leading universities.
