These are photos of third-year Botany students, the lab technician and the Asst. Marketing Officer of Maasai Mara University during a botany field practical session at the University's Botanical garden. Technology draws on science and contributes to it. In the past, botany was mostly about observing, collecting and describing. In the current times, due to advances in both science and technology, botany has become more about experimentation and manipulation and is now real in Maasai Mara University.
These students are now able to see the reality that plants are all around us and underpin all life on earth in the sense that plants provide two of the essentials of human life by providing all our food (either directly or indirectly), and provide the oxygen that we breathe in their University. The students can now practically prove that plants also play a role in many other aspects of our life by providing many of our medicines, are involved in storing carbon, provide habitats and food for other living organisms and have a visible economic role. The students are also realizing more about the importance of biodiversity and want to know more about plants that live on earth. All this is now possible to them through the Botanical garden that is within their reach and is now able to investigate and understand the role of plants in their world which drives them to the fact that Botany is an essential study. Science is now real through the Botanical Garden of Maasai Mara University. We, therefore, invite all potential students to this interesting field of study.
