12th Graduation Ceremony
The University held its 12th graduation ceremony with the theme: Innovation in environmental resources management and climate change mitigation for sustainable development on 9th December 2024.
2041 graduates were conferred with Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines by the Chancellor Dr. Vimal Shah.
The Chief Guest, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, recognized the University role in securing the world’s’ sustainable future through its environmental conservation and management efforts, Research and Innovation that included successful innovation in Artificial intelligence, renewable energy and others.
Mr. Ogamba pledged the Government support in ensuring University students enjoy effective and efficient learning atmosphere through new funding model, which is student centered, fostering innovations through initiatives such as Ajira digital. He urged the Universities to be patient with students and allow them sit exams as the Government sorts our challenges with the new University funding model.
The Chancellor , Dr. Vimal Shah, emphasized the University commitment as a key driver to the global development such as innovation in environmental resource management and climate change mitigation. Such efforts includes linking the University to the silicon valley and the rest world for learning by doing
He assured that the University is committed having its programmes accredited by Commission of University Education (CUE) and encouraged use of technology such as AI in its activities. “the World awaits your impact; you have education empowerment which distinguishes bbetween a leader and a follower”.
The Chancellor urged the graduands to be the change they wish to see on this world , quoting Mahatma Gandhi . “ The Future belongs to those who believe,” he quoted Roosevelt
Chairman of the University Council Dr. Kennedy Ole Kerei, congratulated the 2024 graduates and reflected on University, development and graduation theme nexus: renewable energy innovations, innovative waste management, addressing environmental challenges and eco-tourism and sustainable agriculture. He pledged the council’s support towards innovations, infrastructural development, partnerships, community outreach and other initiatives.
The Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho elaborated on the University niche, vision and its relationship to the graduation theme. The C.V noted that the Council approved establishment of a center for climate action and biodiversity conservation.
The V.C enumerated the University success during the year: a number of conferences organized, academic activities, high level research, partnerships and collaborations, University students’ achievements in the inter University Hackathon 2024, ranked first in AI and third overall.
Chair of the Vice Chancellor’s in Kenya and the V.C Alupe University, Prof. Peter Barasa led representatives from various Universities who attended. Senators, Narok County, Ledama Ole Kina among other leaders were also present.
