GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME

The goals of the nursing program are:

  • Outstanding Nurse:To produce high quality, respectful, competent and humble nurse professionals for practice, academia, research and health management abilities in all respects.
  • Teamwork: To produce a class of nurse professionals who are dynamic and can apply critical thinking all the time while discharging their professional responsibilities within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Technically innovative nurse:To create nurse professionals fully equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical skills and who exhibit proficiency and can apply evidence-based result-oriented principles in a variety of health professional settings both locally and internationally.
  • Strengthening Nurse Scholarship:To create professional scholars who are able to pursue graduate studies in nursing and midwifery and be able to conduct research in health industry and provide high level of leadership and management in health sector.
  • Societal Transformation nurse:To create professionals who will act as agents of change and actively participate in professional activities of health for community empowerment of the nursing profession while upholding the nursing code of ethics and enhancing quality in healthcare services.
  • Nurse without boundary:To produce graduate nurses who are patriotic and practical in their professional orientation with sufficient hands-on experiences and can provide culturally appropriate healthcare services in any environmental conditions.
  • Capacity:To produce graduates who can participate in the future review, design, development and implementation of health training curricula and help strengthen institutional capacity to deliver on their constitutional mandates.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • By the end of the program, a nursing graduate will be able to:
  • Utilize the nursing process and demonstrate knowledge, competence and professionalism in provision of care to patients in a variety of settings.
  • Develop guidelines and policies for implementation of appropriate nursing care.
  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of training curricula.
  • Utilize evidence based practice during delivery of services.
  • Participate in education and mentoring of other nurses and health personnel.
  • Demonstrate competence in utilization of available resources to meet identified needs of individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to co-ordinate activities and provide professional leadership in provision of health care services to individuals, families and communities.
  • Participate in policy formulation in matters related to health sector reforms in Kenya’s health care systems.
  • Promote, adhere to and uphold professionalism and ethical principles in nursing practice.
