• Ms. Mercy Kirumba is a lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Maasai Mara University, Narok, Kenya. She teaches Environmental Biology, General Microbiology, Bacteriology, Phycology, and Botany courses. Her research focuses on water quality improvement of waste water and harvested water using constructed wetlands, floating treatment wetlands, and biological filtration technologies. She explores the microbiology of wastewater, the use of plant-based antimicrobial agents such as water hyacinth and moringa, and bioremediation and phytoremediation techniques to enhance water treatment efficiency. Her work aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, aiming to develop sustainable and nature- based solutions for safe water access, sanitation, and hygiene. Ms. Kirumba is also an expert in curriculum development and review, with training as a Trainer of Trainers (TOT), validator, and assessor in Competency-Based Education and Training (CBE/CBET). She has undergone training in curriculum development, technology for transformative pedagogy, instructional design, and ODeL (Open, Distance, and e-Learning) enhancement. Beyond academia, she is passionate about STEM education advocacy and actively promotes science education in Narok County to improve university and TVET entry grades among high school learners.

• 2024 ODeL Workshop on Instructional Design, ODeL course development and Enhancement with OER-Successfully completed training on Open and Distance Learning, development and validation of ODL policy and instructional design and development of ODeL courses.
• 2024 Competency based Education and Training (CBET) training workshop facilitated by Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA)- Successfully trained as a Trainer of Trainers (TOT), validator and assessor for TVET-CDACC.
• 2024 Competency Based Education training workshop facilitated by Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development (KICD)- trained on Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for the transitioning of Bachelor of Education curricula.
• 2023 Mentorship training workshop facilitated by the Directorate of Career Advisement, Maasai Mara University-successfully trained on mentorship and mentorship programs for university students.
• 2021 Training of Researchers facilitated by National Research Fund (NRF-Kenya) and Training Centre in Communication (TCC)- Training was on research opportunities in Kenya and beyond, resource mobilization and grants writing, innovation and commercialization and Academic publishing.

• 2020 Curriculum review and development training workshop facilitated by Commission for University Education- Successfully trained as a subject expert for Bachelor of Science Microbiology
• 2019 Regional training workshop on use of constructed wetlands technology for wastewater treatment, Mombasa, Kenya-Organized by Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research institute (KMFRI) in collaboration with Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) and UNEP Nairobi Convention. Successfully completed a training course on the use of the various types of Constructed wetland technologies for wastewater treatment
• 2019 ANSO-MMU-SAJOREC scientific conference, Maasai Mara University, Narok, Kenya-presented two papers titled; Investigating the Utilization and Effectiveness of Water Pans as a Water Harvesting Adaptation Strategy in Narok County & Determination of the diversity of Algae and Cyanobacteria in the Maasai Mara University Botanical Garden ponds.
