A Strategic Collaboration on Biodiversity Conservation within the Mau Ecosystem
Maasai Mara University welcomed Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Markoko, and Kenya Forest Service(KFS) representatives, who paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho. The visit focused on a strategic collaboration on biodiversity conservation within the Mau ecosystem. Key discussions included the greening concept, the development of a modern tree nursery, capacity building in forestry, training and demonstrations, and the establishment of a Climate-Smart Medicinal Botanical Garden for joint research. The guests participated in a tree planting activity, toured the university’s botanical garden, and explored pathways for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance conservation and community empowerment initiatives.
