Directorate of Gender, Equity and Culture
Dr. Jane Ombati
Director
The Directorate of Gender, Equity and Culture has continued to create Gender and Equity awareness among staff and students through workshops, seminars, and international symposiums. The issues discussed during these engagements have always emphasized the critical mass of knowledge that can be gained through transformational leadership styles by all genders. The emphasis has also been on nurturing the virtue of inclusivity as a necessary input for the creation of a fair and just society. All these are in line with what has been captured in the strategic direction and implementation matrix of our university’s strategic plan and the Directorate’s objectives.
At the moment, the Directorate’s committee is planning to host a symposium on Gender, Peace, and Security in an effort to engage all and particularly the youth in activities that will eventually contribute immensely to their own development and that of their respective nations.
Maasai Mara University currently enjoys cooperation with Aarhus University-Denmark and Justus-Liebeg- Universitat Giesen in Germany, the University of Nairobi, Karen Blixen Camp and Mararianda Community. This was initiated by the Directorate. The focus is on the challenges of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve ecosystem. Contact email: gender-culture@mmarau.ac.ke
Maasai Mara University is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community. To ensure that our policies and practices align with this goal, we are conducting a review of our gender and Gender Based Violence (GBV) policies.
We would like to invite you to share your ideas and perspectives with us on how we can better support our students, faculty, and staff who may be at risk of GBV. Your input will help us ensure that our policies are effective, equitable, and responsive to the needs of our community.
If you have any suggestions or recommendations for improvements, please send them to us via email at [directorgender@mmarau.ac.ke]. Your feedback can also be anonymous if you prefer.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your input as we work to create a safer and more equitable university for everyone.
