  • Educational Background:  MSc. in Environment and Natural Resource Management (Makerere University, Uganda) and BSc. in Wildlife Management and Conservation (University of Nairobi, Kenya).
  • Brief Bio: Waswala Brian Olewe (Mr). is wildlife and landscape ecologist; environmental education specialist; and public sustainable development policymaker in Kenya and Africa. With over 11 years working experience, Mr. Waswala currently serves as a biodiversity (wildlife, forest, sustainable wildlife and tourism development) and natural resource management lecturer at the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Maasai Mara University, Kenya. He utilises this platform to passionately promote Education for Sustainable Development through formal mentorship, capacity development and skill impartation on certificate, diploma and undergraduate levels. He recently co-authored UNEP’s Africa Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-6) Youth Edition and the African Environmental Education and Training Action Plan (2015-2024); among other publications. These contribute to multiple national, regional and UN SDG agenda.
  • Mr. Waswala also presently serves as the Youth Coordinator at the RCE Greater Nairobi and occasionally engages with RCE South Rift. He coordinates various interdisciplinary youth club engagements along different lines such as debates, media and environmental awareness, food security, ecological restoration initiatives, holistic waste management and championing sustainable production and production patterns.
  • Between 2013 – 2017, Mr. Waswala served as an Environmental Educational Training Specialist at the UN Environment where he advocated for and created awareness in youth engagement and capacity development for a sustainable environment globally. He has also served as a Research Scientist at Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Education Officer at the National Museums of Kenya, state institutions mandated to protect and conserve Kenya’s biodiversity; and collect, preserve, study, document and present Kenya’s past and present cultural and natural heritage respectively. At KWS, he contributed to the development of the Kenya Wetlands Atlas and the Tana River Delta being classified as a Ramsar Site (wetland of international importance). Mr. Olewe is also a member of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM).
