Maa Culture Week, 2024
The second edition of the Maa Cultural Week that was held in Samburu concluded on a high. the event that was presided over the President H.E Dr. William Ruto did not disappoint. The celebration of the rich Maa Culture, customs, traditions, food, lifestyles, dressing, music, traditional dances, storytelling, crafts, and others was indeed colorful.
The University, as the leading institution of learning in the maa region fully participated. This was a perfect implementation of the 4th “M” pillar – maa culture that is ingrained in the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan.
Through the Maa Economic Bloc, the three counties of Narok, Kajiado, and Samburu under Governors Patrick Ntutu, narok, Joseph Ole Lenku, Kajiado and Jonathan Lati Lelelit, Samburu, the event manifested unity, purpose and identity.
The aspirations of the attendees recognizing culture as unified factor and a foundation of the nation was realized. Nothing separated the thousands; no class divide, no power positions, no young, old, haves or have nots. The leaders, locals, everyone, in unison united by the rich heritage danced in sync, sang in rhymes, adorned meticulously and ate together. The field at the gate of Samburu Game reserve was filled with joy. Indeed, culture is a clear reflection and true testimony of our uniqueness and strength.
The University led by the Council Chair, Dr. Kennedy Ole Kerei, a section of council members, the V.C Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho, staff representatives and students proudly fostered the same spirit, networked and contributed to cultural promotion and preservation.
The university booth attracted interests from the local leaders, politicians, artists, parents, young people and potential partners and collaborators.
