Lighting Homes, Spreading Love Programme

Through a multi-institutional partnership: Maasai Mara University,  Prof. Li Fengting, Fellow of African Academy of Sciences and UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, Tongji University, the University received  a generous donation of PB-200 sets of solar lights costing approximately KShs. 1,800,000.

Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academics and Student Affairs, Prof. Bulitia Godrick, represented the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho. He congratulated the Chinese team for their efforts in bringing light to less fortunate children who are struggling to pursue their education. Prof. Bulitia highlighted that the University is a leader and promoter of clean energy and advocates for solar systems. This shift aims to reduce the use of firewood and charcoal, preserve forests, and provide clean energy. Prof. Bulitia affirmed the University commitment to maintaining vital partnerships and cooperation, fostering growth among students and staff, and ensuring access to essential goods and services such as in clean energy sector.

Ms. Shang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal Government, extended her heartfelt thanks to the Maasai Mara faculty for their support in making the event successful. She recognized the efforts of Bluetti, along with the community, for their commitment to the Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) agenda and charity programs. She noted that the Shanghai Fung Shui Foundation has donated 1,050 solar power facilities to the sun-saturated region, supporting sustainable growth.

Ms. Claire Huang from the BLUETTI team expressed her appreciation and commitment towards the Lighting Homes, Spreading Love programme. BLUETTI donation of PB-200 sets of solar lights will go a long way in positively impacting the target beneficiaries, improving their livelihoods, education performance and general health.

The solar kits were donated by BLUETTI, a technological firm that is a  pioneer in clean energy, under the programme , “Lighting Homes, Spreading Love,” that aims to bring clean power to 1 million African families in off-grid areas.

The partnerships will also improve equitable education in remote and off-grid areas in Narok and Kenya in general. 60 pupils from the neighboring schools such as the Light House Touch of Love School received the sola kits.

The visit has strengthened the ties between Maasai Mara University, Tongji University and BLUETTI , paving the way for future collaborations and exchanges. Mr. Lankeu Reson, Director, endowment, Dr. Edward Kateiya, Director Public Relations and Linkages, Prof. Justus Simiyu, Director, Innovations and Research, and a cross section of University management and staff were present.
